Before conducting the main examination, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Preliminary Exam once a year for selection of candidates. Once the candidate qualifies the preliminary exam, the concerned regional offices of the Commission will send them a prescribed application form according to which the candidate will have to apply again with the requisite fees.
This Examination is conducted for recruitment to various subordinate services like
(A) Assistants in Ministries/Departments, Attached and Subordinate office of the Govt. of India.
(B) Inspectors of Central Excise & Customs.
(C) Inspectors of Income Tax.
(D) Preventive Officers in Customs.
(E) Examiner in Customs.
(F) Sub-Inspectors in Delhi Police & CBI.
(G) Sub-Inspectors in BSF, CRPF, ITBP and CISF.
(H) Divisional Accountant, Jr. Accountant, Auditor & UDCs in various offices of Govt. of India.
There are total 19 Public Sector banks which have given a mandate to IBPS to conduct the CWE on their behalf and these banks will recruit Probationary Officers on the basis of such score received in the CWE. However, each bank will announce its own eligibility criteria like (Educational Qualifications, Age Limit, Qualifying Exam Marks etc) and call candidates based on the merit.
Thus merely satisfying the IBPS Eligibility criteria and being declared as successful in the IBPS PO Common Written Exam 2012 doesn't guarantee that you will be eligible for Jobs in participating banks. However, it is to be remembered that passing CWE will be must for applying to the posts of PO. There are likely to be some private banks and other financial institutions who will use the Score Card of IBPS for recruitment to the posts of officers.
Either it is SSC CGL, or SSC CHSL (10+2) or MTS or the paper of Bank IBPS P.O or of Railways and more, all of them has seen a big jump in no. of students attempting these papers. These are comparatively scoring papers but only for those who have prepared for it in the right manner.
